COMMON WATER HEATER PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS
KNOCKING SOUNDS – Knocking sounds coming from your water heater usually means there is sediment in the bottom of the tank. From a maintenance perspective, this doesn’t usually mean anything. In most cases, a plumber is not needed for knocking sounds but it always depends on the age of the water heater.
STANDING WATER IN THE UNIT – If you see standing water in/near your unit or through the inspection door (on a gas water heater), you want to shut off the water going to the water heater and call a plumber. There’s an isolation valve on the top right-hand side of the water heater, near where the water comes into the water heater. Turn this off and call your plumber.
ISSUES WITH WATER TEMPERATURE – The good news is, this doesn’t mean you need a new water heater. Depending on whether you have a gas water heater or an electric one, this could be a few different issues. In either case, it can usually be repaired at a fair price and allow you to avoid the cost of replacing your water heater.
WATER LEAKS – This may not be bad news. But you should still shut off the water and call AZ Family Plumbing immediately. Remember we offer 24/7 emergency plumbing services to all of the Phoenix metro area.
SHUTTING OFF – If you have an electric water heater, this is likely a heating element malfunction or a thermostat that needs replacement. If you have a gas water heater, it could be a gas valve that needs to be repaired or replaced. In either case, this can usually be repaired without the cost of replacing your water heater.
RUNNING CONSTANTLY – If you notice that your water heater is running constantly, unfortunately, this is usually indicative of a slab leak underneath your house. Call AZ Family Plumbing ASAP.
HIGH ENERGY BILLS CAUSED BY AN INEFFICIENT HEATER – This too could be indicative of a slab leak underneath your house. Call your plumber ASAP. Another alternative could be that you just need to switch to tankless water. In either case, AZ Family Plumbing can help.
